Kixtart Login Scripts Installing Service Packs in AD TCPIP and Windows

You have Win2k Server, and Win2k Workstations.   And its time to upgrade to Windows Service Pack 2.  Or 3.  Or whatever version is out this week.

Download the full version (Network Install) of the Service Pack. Extract it to an open share on the network, using the -X command line argument.

Open up your Active Directory Users and Computers on the Admin Console. Right Click your Organization (Usually whatever.com that you created) folder, and click Properties. You'll get the following screen. Edit the Default Domain Policy.

Right click Software Installation under Computer Configuration/Software Settings, and select New - Package. Find the Update.MSI file, which is located in the i386/update folder. Select that, select Assigned, then save everything. Next time each workstation reboots it will auto-magically install before the login prompt, reboot, and then leave you at the login prompt like normal. Takes about 10 minutes, and many workstations can run at once, in the time it takes to go get one more cup of coffee.
